Serving up My Best Mango Mojito Recipe

Sharing another inspired cocktail from among my favorite adult beverage category: Mojitos! I find mojitos to be forever adaptable using fresh in season fruit. Like my Strawberry Mojitos this fresh mango mojito recipe is also easily made into a mocktail or pitcher for a small crowd.

So refreshing and simple to make, it’s a perfect drink for hot summertime days!

Key Ingredients You’ll Need

You may be wondering what’s in a mango mojito. They’re the same as a classic mojito, but with the addition of fresh mango, mango nectar or juice mixed in.

  • Homemade Simple Syrup (sugar or honey): it’s easy to make at home and more economical than anything you can buy at the store. It’s simply a 1:1 ratio of sugar and water, heated in a sauce pan until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves: a main flavor component, use the freshest you can get your hands on!
  • Mango Nectar, Mango Juice or Fresh Mango: any can be used, but fresh mango tastes best (more about the differences below).
  • Light/White Rum: a mild, slightly sweet spirit, classic in mojitos.

Be sure to grab some extra mint for a pretty garnish! I grow mint in a small herb patch specifically for mojitos, tea and smoothies. It’s a fail-proof plant and it’s one thing the deer don’t eat.

1. Simple syrup poured over limes in a glass. 2. muddling limes in simple syrup. 3. Adding mint to a mojito recipe. 4. pouring white rum over ice.

How to Choose a Mango: Unripe fruit will be firm and not give to light pressure. To ripen, simply store mangos at room temperature. Test the fruit each day by giving it a gentle squeeze. When ripe, mango will give just a bit under pressure.

1. Pouring mango juice into an ice packed glass. 2. Pouring club soda into a glass with mango mojito ingredients.

Quick Guide: How to Make Mango Mojitos

Make a single, double or pitcher. In summary, here’s how to make this mango mint mojito (see recipe card for details):

  • First, make the mint simple syrup recipe and allow it to cool.
  • Second, in a highball glass, add lime wedges, simple syrup and mint. Gently muddle until the lime juice is released.
  • Next, top with ice, pour in the rum then fill club soda to the rim.
  • Last, garnish with mint leaves, and lime wheel.

For Mango Mint Mojitos in a Pitcher

For a small crowd, this mojito recipe can easily be scaled up. For ease, muddle the lime, mint and simple in a Mason jar, in batches if needed, then transfer it to a pitcher. Pour in the white rum, mango nectar, then the club soda. Share quickly so the fizz stays fizzy! Pour over ice packed glasses, then garnish with mint and a lime wheel.

Which One? Mango Nectar, Mango Juice or Fresh Mango

There are several options when it comes to incorporating mango into your mojitos. Lucky for us, we have a few choices when it comes to availability. Here are the differences between the three.

Mango Nectar: made of fresh mango, water, sweetener and sometimes other ingredients depending on brand. I love organic mango nectar because it has concentrated flavor and it tastes so darn good! Look for a brand with the simplest ingredients such as water, mango and sugar.

Mango Juice: made of 100% mango juice, and sometimes with other juice additions such as apple or lemon. Look for organic if possible. Mango Juice can sometimes be hard to find in store.

Fresh Mango: easy to find, especially during summer. I like the green-red-yellow variety but smaller honey mangos are delicious too. Mango chunks smash up easy and also make a delicious mango puree if you’d like to go that route. You’ll need about 1/2 a mango per mojito. Fresh mango produces a milder tasting mojito, but still delicious nevertheless.

Pro Tips

  • How Sweet? Because of variations in sweetness of mango nectar, juice and fresh mangos, adjust sweetness to taste in your mojito.
  • How to Cut a Mango: Here’s a video that shows how simple cutting a mango is!
  • Make it a Mocktail: For a mango mojito without alcohol, simply omit the rum and add a bit more club soda or mango nectar and simple to taste.
  • Vodka Instead: For a mango mojito with vodka, simply swap the rum for vodka.

Fizzy, minty, and slightly sweet this Mango Mojito Cocktail recipe is refreshing and easy to make using fresh mangos, mango nectar or mango juice. Whip up this white rum adult beverage as a cocktail or make it mango mojito mocktail! Make a single or scale it up for a pitcher.
(keep screen awake)

Ingredients

For the Mint Simple Syrup*:

  • 1/2 C (120g) Sugar Evaporated Cane Juice*
  • 1/2 C (115g) Water
  • 2 Stems of Mint stems and leaves

For the Mojito (yields one drink):

  • 1/2 (55 grams) Fresh Lime cut into 4 wedges
  • 4-8 Mint Leaves (depends on taste, I use 8 or more), reserve one stem for garnish.
  • 3 ounces (85 grams) Mango Nectar or Juice **see note
  • 1 – 1 1/2 ounce (28-42 grams) Mint Simple Syrup cooled (recipe above)
  • 2 ounces (57 grams) White / Light Rum or leave out for mocktail***
  • Crushed Ice
  • Club Soda

Instructions

For the Mint Simple Syrup:

  • Pour the sugar and water in a two-quart saucepan, then add the mint and bring to a boil. Stir. Boil until all the sugar is dissolved. Set aside to steep for 10 minutes and allow to the syrup to cool. Remove the mint leaves and pour into a lidded container for storage in the refrigerator until ready to use.

For the Mojito:

  • In a 16 ounce (454 grams) highball glass, layer the cut lime wedges and simple. Muddle the mixture for about 30 seconds or until the limes have released their juice. Add the mint leaves and gently muddle a few times.
  • Add crushed ice to the top of the glass, then pour in the light rum (or omit for mocktail) and mango nectar. Top with club soda, stir and taste for sweetness. Adjust as desired.
Garnish with a lime wedge or lime wheel and mint stem.

Notes

*Simple syrup will keep in a lidded container for up to two weeks in the refrigerator, so if needed, double the simple syrup recipe for serving more than two Mojitos. You can make honey simple if desired, which is delish in this recipe. Use equal parts water and honey and bring to a gentle simmer. Turn to low and cook for about five minutes or until slightly thickened. It will thicken as it cools.
**Fresh Mango: Dice 1/3 cup (60gams), about 1/2 a mango, and add it just after muddling the limes. Gently muddle the mango until it breaks down. Continue with the recipe omitting the mango nectar or juice. Garnish with more mango chunks.
***For a Mocktail: omit the alcohol and add a bit more mango nectar or club and simple to taste.
Pitcher: For a small crowd, this mojito recipe can easily be scaled up. For ease, muddle the mangos, lime, mint and simple in a large jar, then transfer it to a pitcher. Pour in the white rum, then the club soda. Share quickly so the fizz stays fizzy! Pour over ice packed glasses, then garnish with mint, mango chunks and lime.
