Creamy, Rich and Tangy

This is the back pocket sauce I return to again and again. It’s easy to pull together and can be enjoyed with a variety of dishes.

My yogurt dill sauce recipe adds a rich, creamy and tangy component drizzled over roasted veggies (it’s soo good on this Lemon Garlic Orzo with Roasted Veggies), dolloped over fluffy baked potatoes or Garlic Roasted Potatoes, it’s delicious with zucchini fritters or a perfect partner with fresh crisp veggies like cucumber and carrots or scoop with Fresh Sourdough Pita Bread for a tangy finish!

This Recipe Is

  • quick to make
  • cooling and refreshing
  • make ahead – its flavor improves with a bit of refrigerator time.
  • versatile – add different herbs to taste

If you’re looking for a simple sauce or dip that’s versatile and goes with so many things, this recipe is one you’ll make over and over.

About the Key Ingredients

  • Yogurt: use your favorite unsweetened whole milk yogurt or Greek style yogurt for a rich and thick texture.
  • Herbs: this recipe calls for dill, but you can enjoy it with chives, parsley, mint or a combination. Fresh herbs will offer the freshest flavor, but use dried herbs in the off seasons, reducing the amount called for by about 1/2.

How to Make Yogurt Dill Sauce
step by step

Traci’s Tips

  • Thicker Sauce: If you’d like a thicker sauce, pour off any liquid (whey) that has accumulated in the yogurt container. Or, allow the yogurt to set in a fine mesh strainer lined with cheese cloth or coffee filter undisturbed for about 20-30 minutes to strain off excess liquid.
  • Make Ahead: Make the sauce at least 30 minutes ahead of when you need it to allow the flavors to marry. It gets better with a little time in the fridge.
