No Special Occasion Needed to Sip Prosecco

For the love of summer and sweet tea! It’s a must, and so refreshing during the hottest of days. In this Prosecco Cocktail, I’ve combined the delight of summer with honey, a touch of lemon and a few libations to create a thirst quenching adult beverage.

Vodka or Gin in this Iced Tea Cocktail?

No matter if you’re a vodka or gin fan, either will work in this sweet tea cocktail. Vodka is more neutral than gin, so if going for a smooth finish with apparent floral notes from the tea and with a hint of citrus, vodka is a good choice. However, if you’re a gin fan and appreciate botanical, and fruity notes in a cocktail, then gin is the way to go!

Either way, this is a solid cocktail finished with a bubbly pour of fruity, ice cold Prosecco. What more could you want in a summer cocktail?

Ingredients for a Prosecco Cocktail    Brewing Black Tea in a jar. A squeeze of lemon through a fine mesh strainer.     Fresh brewed tea in a Mason jar.

Ingredients for Sweet Tea Prosecco Cocktail

Use your favorite black tea and honey for this beverage. Here’s what you’ll need (see recipe card for details):

  • Plenty of Crushed Ice – blitz in a blender
  • Black Tea – loose or bags – I like Earl Grey or English black tea
  • Honey – or simple syrup may be used
  • Vodka or Gin
  • Grand Marnier
  • Lemon juice
  • Prosecco – dry or demi-sec \ not brut

Share in glass Mason jars, highball glasses or tea glasses. Even though Prosecco seems high brow, this is a totally casual sipper.

Quick Guide: How to Make Sweet Tea Prosecco Cocktails

It’s super easy to make this sparkling wine cocktail. In summary, here’s how to do it (see recipe card for details):

  • First, add the honey to a large mason jar and pour almost boiling water into the jar. Add the tea and steep for 10 minutes.
  • Second, strain tea (or remove tea bags) and chill.
  • Next, once chilled, for a Prosecco and vodka cocktail add the vodka or for a more floral cocktail, add gin.  Layer in the grand mariner, and lemon juice. Stir.
  • Last, pour mixture over crushed ice and top with Prosecco. Stir. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

The base of the cocktail can be made up to one day in advance. Simply top with Prosecco just before serving.

Pro Tips

  • When brewing the tea, you’re making a concentrate. It will be strong and intensely sweet. However, the tea will be diluted with booze and Prosecco when making a cocktail.
  • There are many varieties of Prosecco on the market. Look for dry or demi-sec but not brut. I like La Marca Prosecco.
  • Gin or Vodka? To go all out garden party floral, make the Prosecco and Gin Cocktail! This is my favorite version, but I find it can be a little overpowering for those who prefer more neutral notes. If this is the case, vodka is a good choice.
  • Honey or simple syrup? Honey adds more lovely floral notes in this sweet tea vodka recipe, while simple offers neutral notes. Either works.
  • I’ve included recipes for one cocktail or for five. Brew the tea up to three days ahead and chill it in the fridge. The cocktail can be mixed up, up to one day in advance, then topped with Prosecco when ready to share.

      Hi Traci,
This sounds wonderful, I want to try it. Do you use Grand Marnier and Orange Liqueur?
      Thanks,
      Lynn

hi Lynn! Grand Marnier is the only orange liqueur you need. I’m thinking Couintreau would work in place of it, if desired. I hope this helps Lynn!

Tea is my favorite summer cocktail mixer. The Prosecco adds such a festive touch. Cheers to you and Rob for 29 years, definitely something to celebrate!
